June has arrived and with it, some long-awaited rain.

RAINFALL

After two years of drought, our vineyards and hills are feeling the benefits of some rainfall.

In Piedmont and the Langhe we have had the gentle showers that are ideal for agriculture, but unfortunately in other areas of Italy there has been a deluge. Our thoughts go out first to our friends in Emilia-Romagna where bad weather has caused devastating floods and widespread damage.

IN THE VINEYARD

Hence it's really important to manage all the greenery in the present moment.

With all the recent rain, both the shoots and the grass in the vineyards are growing at the speed of light. We are concentrating on spring vine training, removing suckers, a first green pruning and tying up the vines.

These are all jobs that allow us to begin selection of the best shoots and also to remove excess leaves, so that the grape bunches are well-ventilated and receive enough sunlight. It's a general ‘tidying up’ of all the new shoots in the rows of vines. Clearly all this work is carefully done by hand. The ripening of our grapes for the 2023 harvest depends on it! Look how beautiful our vineyards are! We aim for clean agriculture; for example, we don't use herbicides. We are certified by the The Green Experience. For info look here https://thegreenexperience.it/index.html

IN THE CELLAR

In the cellar we're getting ready to bottle the whites.

Our Ardì 2022, our Langhe Sauvignon Basaricò 2022 and our Satifol! We have to hurry up because our Langhe Sauvignon Basaricò is SOLD OUT! You’ve already finished it all! Be patient–at the end of June the new 2022 vintage will be available for purchase.

IN TASTING

LANGHE DOC SAUVIGNON BASARICÒ

❝ Basaricò is the Piedmontese word for basil: the aromas of our Sauvignon bring to mind the fragrant leaves of basil left to dry on the terrace by our grandmother

A good match for light soups and more substantial vegetable potages. Fish baked in foil or tomato and mozzarella, both drizzled with extra virgin olive oil. All are perfect companions to this wine. As an aperitif with turmeric-flavoured, toasted hazelnuts, or raw prosciutto. With artichokes–in salad or sautéed–unexpectedly satisfying. Sublime with gnocchi al pesto.
